NEW: UltraSonic IS-5

     Reliable Gas Leak Detection at the Speed of Sound

MSA has further expanded its permanent instruments product range with the next generation ultrasonic Combustible Gasesgas leak detector UltraSonic IS-5, designed for instant leak detection, low maintenance, long-term and failsafe operation in harsh environmental conditions.

The Ultrasonic IS-5 detects gas leaks instantly. This makes it possible to significantly reduce risk and enhance safety on oil and gas installations. Unlike conventional detection methods (point and open path detection) the Ultrasonic IS-5 detector is neither affected by changing wind directions and fast gas dilution. Nor do the ultrasonic detectors have to wait for a hazardous gas cloud to accumulate. Instead they respond instantly to the ultrasonic noise that pressurized gas leaks generate.

Based on a highly stable and robust microphone technology the Ultrasonic IS-5 detects 0.1 kg/s leaks in a radius up to 20 m from the leak. The outputs from the detector represent analogue output 4-20 mA, relay output (NAMUR or dry contacts) selectable to Alarm or Fault function via internal switch.

UltraSonic IS-5 is approved according to ATEX / IECEx standards as intrinsically safe equipment that can be installed in hazardous areas. Additionally, the UltraSonic IS-5 design complies with SIL 2 requirements.

The Ultrasonic IS-5 gas leak detector can be used for all pressurized gas installations. Applications include offshore oil platforms, onshore oil and gas terminals, refineries, hydrogen storage facilities, gas compressors and metering stations, LNG plants and downstream chemical processing plants (e.g. ethylene, methanol, ammonia, and propylene).
